VINCENT ERDRICK HARSHAW*
THIRTY-SEVEN years old, PROFESSOR OF HISTORY OF MAGIC
represented SLYTHERIN, bearing a 12.75", made of ebony, with a
core of imp eggs wand
The thing about Vincent is he is a tale of two people - the boy he was, and the man he is now.
As a youth he was brilliant - brilliant on a level with some of the most talented wizards to walk the halls of Hogwarts. He was also one of the least ambitious and motivated people you would meet. There was never a test he enjoyed studying for or a homework assignment he was particularly eager to complete. His instructors back in his schooling days were oftentimes frustrated with his lackadaisical attitude towards his education. This made them all the more flabbergasted when he would post consistently high marks on any practical test or even his O.W.L. exams etc. He definitely had a Voldemort-may-care attitude, if you will. Everything seemed to come all too easy for the young wizard, and it earned him a certain notoriety among the teaching staff as well as the student body. Such did not trouble him in the slightest - in fact, he almost seemed to feed off of it. This touch of narcissism along with his prodigious talent made him a natural Slytherin.
Flash-forward twenty years and you will find a markedly different man, albeit with touches of the boy he was in his youth.
Today finds Vincent a bit more withdrawn. A lot more actually. His trademark grin has mostly been displaced with a furrowed brow and a mildly irritated (on a good day) expression on his aged face. Vincent also has become, at his core, significantly more bitter than he was before, a side effect of which has been that he is much more meticulous in his adulthood than he ever was as a student. He mixes a lot less with people and spends most of his free time holed up in his study or in his quarters on the grounds. Finally it isn't the least bit lost on Vincent himself, the irony of him being back in these halls as a teacher. Being on the other side of the proverbial fence in life is always an enlightening and interesting experiment, and the present-day scenario that has manifested itself - that Professor Harshaw is now the one harping on gifted but undedicated students much like how he was cajoled back in his day - is no exception to the rule. He certainly would tell you this was far from his first choice as a career path.
Vincent arrived at Hogwarts thinking this was the end of the line. Little did he know that it was only the beginning....
