OLIVER CLARK AARDEN*
sixth year, sixteen years old
representing --------, bearing a ------- wand
Life for the young Mr. Aarden was that of a rather simple, yet sweet nature, for the first ten or so years. It had never occurred to either himself, or his muggle-born mother, that he would be invited to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Indeed, it hadn't even featured to either of them as a small consideration that Oliver Aarden might possess magical abilities. Why would anyone expect such a thing? He'd only ever known of the life that he lived up until that point - that of the ordinary world. The prospect of being a wizard, whilst not unwelcome to either of the pair, wasn't one that either of them had openly entertained, for exactly that reason - there was no indication to suggest that he could be anything other than ordinary. And why should there be? There was no history of magical beings within the family. Any chance of being magical was unbeknownst to him, for Oliver had never known the wizard whom pertained to be his father.
Brought up by a hard-working mother, who strived constantly to provide for her only child, the young boy was incredibly grateful for everything that his only parent did on a daily basis. As with each activity in Oliver's life, Serena Aarden, was the personification of encouragement on the afternoon of the unexpected delivery. Of course, the two shared concerns, as was to be anticipated on receiving such an odd invitation, considering the difference between the two worlds that the boy would encounter. Yet, an opportunity like the one offered in the handwriting of the strangely addressed envelope could hardly be ignored.
After frequent periods of deliberation shared between the two, they opted for the latter decision, feeling that Oliver's newly uncovered gifts should not be allowed to go to waste. He'd be attending this alternative school, as opposed to the school that they had previously selected. Such a change in schools, however, did not happen without further hours of concern and more sessions of contemplation of the alternative lifestyle that Oliver would soon find himself adopting.
The thought of effectively adapting to a new life of sorts, whilst somewhat worrying in parts, generally excited the young boy, an expression which soon followed in the face of his mother on seeing the delight etched into her child's eyes.
The process of adaptation to a unknown environment was partially easier than he had anticipated, by means of happening to chance upon a small, friendly-looking girl occupying an empty carriage on the first train ride to the castle. This girl would later be all-too familiar to him as one Annelise Abbister. Clueless to her identity, but having the common sense to predict that this girl might be one to ease his any remaining nerves on setting foot into Hogwarts for the first time, he elected to stay in the aforementioned carriage, a decision which would later be partially responsible for cementing the budding friendship between the two parties.
While this transaction was certainly never effortless in nature, being rather intense at times, Olly was extremely pleased, albeit a little surprised, to find that his casual friendliness was generally a success in terms of meeting his peers, although none could ever quite fill the spot reserved for Annelise. Adjusting to a new world was significantly more shocking for a boy raised in such a quiet Muggle street, finding new things to gaze at in awe every week. This sense of general interest in the Wizarding World extended further than mere curiosity, soon finding other things to engage his enjoyment, such as the intellect behind the art of performing charms and other spells appropriately, in addition to other active pursuits.
In adopting such new habits, Oliver, along with others, soon became aware of a prominent characteristic that had not been as evident in advance - that of his severe competitive nature.
