ANNELISE SCARLETT ABBISTER*
sixth year, sixteen years old
representing ---, bearing a --- wand
Born to a successful team member of the all-female Quidditch team the Holyhead Harpies, and a well-known British broom maker, it was a surprise to friends and family that Annelise Scarlett Abbister was not born riding a broom. However, this same family and friends showered Annelise with toy brooms and playful snitches from a very young age to keep this only child occupied and entertained.
During the early years of her life, Annelise found happiness playing outside, whether it be with her toy snitches and brooms or the plethora of animals her family kept. She loved to move, whether it be dancing with the wind, playing tag with the dogs, or trying to catch the sugar gliders or cats that loved to run and glide around their pasture. She grew with a loving fondness for creatures and animals, not limited to the pets and house elf her family owned but extending to the birds and insects she would sometimes see during her adventures outside.
Though her parents never opted to send Annelise to daycare or hire a nanny, they trusted their beloved bundle of joy in their hands of their shy house elf, Nutella. It was Nutella who taught Annelise her ABCs, months of the year, and days of the week, and Nutella who made Annelise her grilled cheese sandwiches. And, it was through this bond with Nutella that reinforced Annelise's fondness for creatures.
The young girl, at the age of eleven, was pleased to receive her owl to Hogwarts; she immediately dropped most of her things and proceeded to dance with Nutella in the family foyer. Her parents, also satisfied, immediately purchased a new broom, and a baby sugar glider, to celebrate Annelise's journey to Hogwarts. With her new sugar glider, Lilikoi, on her shoulder, she hopped onto the Hogwarts Express for the very first time, waving goodbye to her family - her mother (a former Gryffindor), father (a former Ravenclaw), and Nutella.
Albeit she lacked the social skills that most children learned when surrounded by others in schools and nurseries, her parents seemed to not worry that their child was a little shy. After all, Annelise made herself completely comfortable in audiences at Quidditch games, screaming her loudest as she cheered on her mum, a seeker, and the rest of the Holyhead Harpies. They were confident that Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry would only bring out the best in her, and had no worries as they stood on Platform 9 and 3/4, sending their only daughter off on the Hogwarts Express.
It was there, on the Hogwarts Express, that Annelise met Oliver, a boy completely new to wizarding society. She was completely fascinated with everything about him, actually having never spoken to a Muggle before during her previously sheltered life amongst witches and wizards. Finding him intriguing, charming, and simply friendly, Annelise took the liberty of attaching her hip to his. She explained concepts to him when he needed it, and he told her fascinating stories of a world she had little idea existed. It was in Olly that Annelise found her very first friend. She very well looks up to Oliver in many ways, respecting and idolizing his charisma, loyalty, and perseverance.
During her first year at Hogwarts, not having access to an owl, Annelise realized there was a huge problem with the little amount of owls available for public use to students. Being fully aware of how expensive owls were, Annelise complained to her parents, who then offered to buy her an owl. Annelise turned the offer down, letting the issue slide after that.
It was to her parents' dismay that Annelise decided not to pursue Quidditch during her second year of Hogwarts. Finding other activities to pursue such as Care of Magical Creatures and the Hogwarts choir, Annelise put her flying pursuits on the backburner as a hobby rather than a passion and commitment like her house's Quidditch team.
Now in her sixth year, Annelise is beginning to find an outlet for her passion of issues around campus in the Hogwarts Society of Investigative Journalists. Although not concerned with the muggle group the Believers, Annelise finds herself more interested in issues others see as insignificant such as the number of owls available to students and the quality of brooms available to all Quidditch players. It is through these interests that she chooses to become involved in this Hogwarts Society of Investigative Journalists.
