As the last student sorted took his seat, Headmistress Cerise Charmant watched for a few moments as his new house, Gryffindor, welcomed him to their table. A subtle smile made its way onto the older witch's face. She could see so much sitting from her chair at the staff table at the front of the Great Hall. After giving the Gryffindors a few moments to invite their new housemate to a seat, and welcome him to the start of his journey as a lion, Cerise pushed her chair back, making room for her to stand. Her heavy Headmistress chair made a distinct noise that was unheard throughout most of the room, competing with the voices of the students. At least she wasn't competing with the Sorting Hat and its very cheerful song.
Before making any abrupt movement, Cerise looked down, patting her hands on her pink, velvet dress robe, double-checking to make sure she looked decent and presentable before getting the students' attention. Finally, Cerise drew her head up and coughed hoping to get some of the room quieter. Very well knowing that wouldn't get the attention of all the Hogwarts students, she picked up her glass of champagne, holding it out into the open. With her free hand, the witch grabbed her spoon and clunked it to her class.
Clink. Ding. Clink.
The room quieted.
"Ah," she said, pleased. "Thank you."
The Headmistress, smiling, took a short pause, taking the time to glance around the room of diverse students and new faces. "Welcome, or welcome back, to Hogwarts." As she spoke, her eyes and sometimes her head would move around slowly, trying to address and make brief eye contact with as many students as possible. "It's a pleasure to see you all here today. For those of you who don't know me, or the people sitting beside me," Cerise gestured to her staff sitting on both sides of her, "you will get to know us soon. For now, we eat!" Practically singing at that point, Cerise hit the spoon onto her glass again, and all the plates in the centers of each table filled with a variety of food for the students and staff to grab. Oh, did she have fun planning out this menu with the house elves just the other night.
With all that being said, she sat down and began to grab food.
