At age twenty-nine, it wasn't a surprise that one would be enthusiastic over some things. For Bridie Fitzgerald, one of those things were books. She loved all sorts of books, large and small, fiction and nonfiction alike. Even as a former member of the House of Gryffindor, she held books of all sorts in the highest regards.
Of course, the strange part about all of this was that she had a chameleon with her, and an owl sitting on top of the shelf watching.
The chameleon rode on her shoulder, much like a parrot with a pirate captain. He was currently a bright purple in colour, attempting to match her shirt... and ultimately failing. Bridie found it highly amusing and let him continue as she browsed through the books. As Hogwarts librarian, it was her job to scour for new books for the already massive collection. She hadn't found anything today that they didn't already have, unfortunately. Perhaps she'd have better luck over in the Muggle Literature section...
(A/N: a short and sweet opener for anyone to join in on!)

during her week of purchasing school supplies in diagon alley, fourth year isabelle ine iolani probably spent all too much time focusing on quality quidditch supplies and not enough on actual supplies she needed for classes. so, on the day before her mother came 'round to pick her up from all her shopping for school, isabelle decided it would probably be wise to stop at flourish and blotts. after all, if she waited another day, they just might run out of the books she needed. which could have been bad, but it couldn't have been too bad, the fourteen-year-old thought.
she approached the shop painted blue and red, opening its golden doorframe. a bell chimed as she entered, and she smiled. for some reason, she loved the sound of the melodic bells at store entrances. it just made her feel so welcome. as isabelle stepped into the shop, she noticed her red-headed librarian, bridie, in the aisle. "miss fitzgerald!" she called over, actually quite excited to see a friendly and familiar face. "miss fitzgerald! hello!" isabelle skipped over to the witch, eyes alive, bright, and open. as she approached bridie, she looked up and beamed. "how are you doing, miss fitzgerald?"
ooc: i hope it's quite alright isa calls her miss fitzgerald. :3

Cheery, tin-toned doorbells chimed as Raspberry strolled leisurely through the door, and immediately set to work scanning the bookshelves. She seemed to find what she was looking for, picked it up with a smile, leafed through it, and then put it back hastily, horrified. She turned to a different shelf, and repeated the process, though this time her smile stayed.
Raspberry looked at Isabelle, and then quickly turned through the pages of the book. And then looked at Isabelle, and then back at the book, turning more pages. When Raspberry looked at Isabelle for the third time, a better idea dawned, and she produced a wand out of her pocket and swooshed it, mumbling something inaudible. The book flipped its own pages.
"You must be Laurie Taurie, first year!", she exclaimed at last, pointing at a picture of a blonde-haired girl that did not look like Isabelle at all. The book contained pictures of people, with a name and description by each person. The picture next to Laurie Taurie represented Isabelle exactly, and had Iabelle's name and school status beneath it.
"So then you must be...", she waved her wand again and the book flipped to a different page near the back. Again, Raspberry looked at the wrong picture, and tried "Janice Bernise, food preparer.", she addressed Bridie.
"It's so nice to meet you both! Are you having a conversation? Oh, I want to have a conversation, too! What's the topic?!", her enthusiasm was overwhelming, and all of it genuine.
Raspberry closed the book and clasped it to her stomach. The title of the book read "Hogwarts Students and Staff", with the current year, and tiny lettering describing how the magical book worked to produce pictures and descriptions of everyone enrolled and on salary.

isabelle's head turned as a book was pushed in front of her, behind it a very tall witch who seemed very convinced isabelle was a blonde named laurie taurie. immediately, isabelle saw her portrait and name, and lifted her finger to correct the very eager witch. "n-no, i'm..." as she was about to introduce herself, the witch moved on, eyeing miss bridie fitzgerald.
food preparer? giggles escaped isabelle when the darker skinned witch looked at bridie, pointing to someone named janice bernise. the fourth year looked over to her red-headed librarian, curious to see her facial expression, and whether or not she, too, was going to correct this witch.
but before isabelle's eyes lingered long enough to notice any reactions, the witch continued to talk.
"um..." isabelle spoke in a panic, both hands clasped behind her back as she tried to think of just what to say. "we weren't talking about anything, really..." unsure of how to maintain eye contact, her eyes looked downwards, landing on the title of the woman's book. "what's that?" she asked as her head slowly drew itself sideways. "why do you have a book that talks about hogwarts students and staff?" now she was curious. why would they even publish something like that? the fourteen year old couldn't imagine the helpfulness or use of such a book, but those thoughts were coming from someone who had trouble adjusting to so many people at such a large school.
